Our History

Calvary Chapel of Red Oak was formed in 1995, as Calvary Chapel of Rocky Mount. In a room above the garage of one of the members, the body came together desiring to study God’s Word, fellowship as Believers, and worship God in a balanced, contemporary atmosphere.

Since the beginning, our worship has been very informal. Our services have focused on the teaching of God’s Word. We began that first Sunday in the spring of 1995, in Genesis 1:1 and have continued through the Bible in a systematic way.

After about three weeks, we moved from the original location to the conference rooms at the Hampton Inn. We worshipped there for about six weeks noting that we were perhaps the only church that offered a Continental Breakfast. God then blessed us with a location in Hunter Hill Square where we worshipped for some six years.

During that time God opened the door for us to purchase land in the Red Oak Community near the homes of some of the members. In a miraculous way, God made it possible for us to purchase 20 acres of land for the cost 2 acres. As we dedicated the land to God, many of us began to have burning hearts for the community of Red Oak. We knew, however, that there was no human way we could build immediately. We were reminded of the scripture that tells us “It is not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord.”

In the fall of 2001, we saw God’s hand leading us to begin construction of our current building. We are overwhelmed at God’s goodness and His provision. It is our desire to be a good neighbor and messenger in this community.

We want to serve Jesus Christ by serving others and being a lighthouse to hurting souls in need of peace and rest.
